Kinko's, Blockbuster and Overalls

I was thinking about Kinko's yesterday. I don't know why. Does Kinko's even exist anymore? Wait a minute while I check...

It appears that Kinko's is still a thing, but the stores are within Fed Ex locations? Hmmm...

So I was thinking about how often I went to Kinko's in the late 90's and how today's college kids probably don't even turn in paper anymore. Then I thought about what I must have looked like all those times I went to make copies.

It was the late 90's, so I'm pretty sure I was wearing Doctor Marten's, overalls and flannel. What ever convinced me that wearing overalls was a good idea, I'll never know. But I wore the shit out of those things.

Then I thought about other things that were popular in the late 90's, like Blockbuster and Dido. Why did Blockbusters always smell like feet? And Dido...yeah...

I'm pretty sure the 90's are forgettable, unless that's when you went to high school and college.

  1. I remember Kinko's, I know I made multiple trips there in the 90's. And the overalls - what was I thinking?? I have to say that I miss blockbuster. It was fun to actually go there and select a movie. Netflix is just not the same. I will never forget the 90's!

    1. Overalls have their place, but I don't go there. I always felt enormous pressure at Blockbuster. I would side-eye the people next to me to gauge whether they were going to take the movie I wanted. Ha! So silly. I won't forget the 90's either - my entire high school and college years took place between 1990 and 1999.

  2. Sadly, Kinko's is often still part of my professional life, and it sucks. I miss Blockbuster. I had the biggest crush on a guy who worked there, and I would rent all the movies on his "recommended" shelf.

    1. I'll never forget the smell of fresh photocopies. I'd forgotten about the "recommended" shelf - those were usually pretty good, and it reminds me of Seinfeld.

  3. Overalls, oh ya! Finally got rid of my last pair in 2004. Loved those things. Kinkos and Blockbuster (or Hollywood Video for me) always felt a little like punishment, I much prefer the current at home versions. As for Dido I think of her as a first half of the 2000's act. God I still remember the painful break up to her first album (and yes I still called it an album, even thought it was a cd).

    1. I guess she was more of a new millennium type of artist ;) And I still had overall shorts when we moved to Portland in 2005. They just hadn't been worn in years (I'm not a shorts kind of gal), and they've since made their way to Goodwill!

  4. Just saw an article today that Doc Marten's and Timberlands are making a comeback. Hope you still have your boots. :)

    1. I wish! They were one of the most comfortable pairs of shoes I ever owned. But then my feet got bigger (weird, right?) and they ended up at Goodwill.
